How can you help prevent it?
If you witness or suspect the sexual exploitation of a child or adolescent, alert the authorities. Reporting it is not interfering: it is the only way to make it stop.

Keep the noise down
Nature has its own sounds and they are worth hearing. Respect what the community is doing: around you there are people working, studying and resting. Respect them and they will thank you for it.
Hire local guides
Guatapé has an association of local guides, and they are the ones who tell this story properly. Hiring them is also the most direct way for your trip to leave something behind in the town.
Read up before you come
Every place has its history, its nature and its culture. Knowing where you are keeps your visit from doing harm or interrupting the daily life of the people who live here.
Look after the wildlife and the plants
Watch wildlife without disturbing it, do not pick flowers or plants, and do not buy products made from endangered species.
Your pet is your responsibility
Pick up after it and keep its vaccinations up to date. If the breed requires it, always use a lead and a muzzle.
Reduce, recycle and reuse
Produce as little waste as you can and hold on to it until you find a proper bin. Guatapé is known for being clean and for handling its waste well: here it is separated correctly, and we do not want to lose that.
Buy local
Guatapé runs an entrepreneurship school with projects that benefit its residents, and its own scheme, the Sello E, which certifies good practice in local businesses. Look for the seal.
Be kind
We want travellers who are kind and respectful towards residents, towards ethnic communities and towards the LGBTI community. There is room here for everyone.

Learn and respect the traffic and pedestrian signs, and respond to emergency alarms. It is what makes your visit go well.
